The residents and trustees of Falmouth almshouse Earle’s Retreat gathered to give their warden a farewell strawberry and cream tea party in the retreat’s beautiful flower laden garden.

Sylvia Rowe, who has been warden for 18 years, is stepping down to enjoy retirement with her husband Treeve, who has assisted her with her many caring duties.

Chairman of trustees, and former mayor, Maureen Davies, presented Sylvia with flowers and a gift. She also thanked her for her years of devoted service to the residents, saying her care had on many occasions gone beyond the call of duty.

Residents and family members also gave presents and flowers as a token of their appreciation of the work Sylvia had put in to make residents’ lives at the retreat as happy and comfortable as possible.

Replying on behalf of his wife, Treeve recalled various occasions over the past years and said it had been a very happy time for them both.
