Young learners receive awards in Truro

Truro College's youngest learners received awards for Increased Flexibility Programme at a special presentation evening.

The pupils came from Richard Lander, Penair, Pencalenick, Roseland, Falmouth and Penryn College.

The IFP gives students the opportunity to follow a vocational course at College alongside their school curriculum. Students from six local schools have completed a two year programme of study at Truro College. The schools involved in the programme are: Richard Lander, Penair, Pencalenick, Roseland, Falmouth, Penryn College, Students, parents and representatives from the schools along with College staff joined together to celebrate the achievements and Rob Sharpe, Deputy Headmaster from Penair School explained to all about the benefits the students gain from the programme and what a valuable opportunity it is.

Cheryl Mewton, Director of Studies at Truro College congratulated all the students and presented their certificates for qualifications at a range of levels in vocational areas including Catering, Hairdressing, Beauty, Motor Vehicles, Public Services, Sport, Music Technology and Skills for Working Life.

Gill Dyer, Young College Co-ordinator said :"There have been some outstanding achievements from these young people. Students following First Diploma courses have achieved at Merit and Distinction level, a Distinction being equal to 4 GCSEs 2 at A and 2 at A* Students have attended for one day a week over a 2 year period alongside their school studies. It has been a real pleasure to be involved with such an enthusiastic group of young learners. I wish them all a successful future."
