The streets of Porthleven were filled with music and celebration on Sunday as local residents, councillors and the town band took to the streets for the Civic Service.

Spirits weren't dampened by the overcast weather, as the Mayor of Porthleven, Councillor Barbara Powell, led the parade from the town's public hall to the Methodist Church.

Guest mayors from other local towns were in attendance, as was Helston's deputy mayor John Martin, who all listened to the singing choir from the Porthleven School, who contributed two songs and a choral speech poem.

Councillor Andrew Wallis read the lesson and Jeremy Richards, a local fisherman, led prayers and the mayor herself also took part, welcoming guests and leading the prayers of intercession.

The service was led by the minister, the Reverend Beverly Turner, who also preached the sermon.

David Philp was the organist, and some of the singing was accompanied by Porthleven Town Band.

At the close of the service the ladies of the church served tea to the guests, and a pleasant time of fellowship took place.
