To chase away the January blues, K9 Crusaders held a Yappy New Year fun dog show and party last weekend, which has well as proving a lot of fun, also raised over £200 for the charity.

The money will help towards the charity's general running expenses, which include its main expense of meeting the vet bills for the dogs in their care.

A spokesman for K9 Crusaders said: "We would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported the event. It was great to see old friends and meet some new ones, including Harvey Miles, a German Shepherd who won best youngster and went on to win best in show."

Other winners on the day at the show, which was held at Perranarworthal Village Hall, were Lily Stone, a cocker spaniel named prettiest bitch and was also the winner of reserve best in show; Dachshund pup, Coco, best pure breed, and Great Dane, Leo, handsomest dog and winner of the fancy dress class.

Two re-homed K9 Crusaders dogs also did well with Ellie Mitchell winning best condition and Bella Quick winning two of the games classes - pass the parcel and Fido says.

There were also some new classes this time including the biscuit eating race, which provided a great deal of merriment when Great Dane Leo, who was well ahead, refused to eat the last biscuit as it didn't seem to his liking, and so lost out on a chance of any rosette at all, when first prize had seemed to be a certainty.

The K9 Crusaders reputation for fun at their dog shows was certainly evidenced by the amount of laughter during the show and the many compliments received at the end. Supporters are already looking forward to the next event which will be held on February 18 at Perranwell Village Memorial Hall, from noon. No need to pre-register, just turn up on the day and pay £1 each time you enter the ring for a class. There will also be a fancy dress class for which the theme will be Valentine.
