There was cause for celebration at Falmouth School last week as last year’s record breaking GCSE students gathered to celebrate their fantastic results.

With the vast majority of the year group continuing their studies at Falmouth College, it was a chance to catch up and reminisce about their time at Falmouth School, as guests arrived to a backdrop of the piano being played, with a visual photo display and refreshments served by lower school students.

This year's group have been recognised as Falmouth School’s record breakers, gaining the school’s best ever results at GCSE. Seventy-three per cent of students attained a C or higher in English and maths, compared to the national average of 58.7 per cent. The A*-C pass rates in English and maths were more than ten per cent higher than the national averages and put Falmouth School as one of the top Cornish schools.

As the presentation began, students were awarded their GCSE certificates as well as being recognised for securing their English Baccalaureate awards. Awards were given out for each subject, including sport, technology, languages, geography, history, creative arts, English, maths and science, with further awards for the sports personality of the year, academic excellence and academic progress.

Following the awards, guests stayed to further enjoy refreshments and mingle together as a group for one final time. The night was a massive success and headteacher Brett Miners was delighted with how it went.

“We were delighted to see so many students and their families attend the GCSE celebration evening," he said. "The students were part of an outstanding group of young people who achieved so well at the school. All of the staff at the school really enjoyed sharing these successes with the students on Wednesday night and wish all of our students, past and present, every success."
