Martin Williams from Penzance is sitting pretty comfortably after winning a brand new sofa, thanks to his generous spirit and desire to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK.

Mr Williams was shopping in the recently opened DFS Truro store, and is one of many customers across the UK who have helped raise over £750,000 so far this year in the DFS Give Me Five competition, supporting BBC Children in Need. The win comes just as Mr Williams is refurbishing the conservatory of his new home, making his win even sweeter.

The Give Me Five fundraising campaign, which is now in its second year, encourages customers to enter a competition for £5 with the proceeds going to BBC Children in Need. In return, they are entered into a prize draw to win their entire order for free.

Mr Williams received his entire order worth £1,145, after purchasing two Ellie Accent chairs in plum. He said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I gave the £5 because I thought helping children and young people through BBC Children in Need was the right thing to do. I never thought I’d win.”

Tom Lemon, store manager at DFS Truro, added: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to give something back to Mr Williams in return for helping DFS raise money for disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK, many of whom are supported by projects in and around Cornwall.”

The DFS Give Me Five prize draw for BBC Children in Need is held monthly and is open to any customer who gives £5 to enter the competition when they purchase their furniture.
