An evening of psychedelic music, performance and film is coming to Helston this weekend as CAST branches out into its first music night.

Organisers hope Saturday's event will appeal to a new audience and provide a warm up to the Hallowe'en Masked Ball taking place at Flambards later that night.

Samhain (pronounced Sah-win) is a festival of Celtic origin and loosely corresponds to Hallowe'en and All Souls Night with the urge, or psychic necessity, to remember and rouse the dead.

Zetan Spore will headline with their live blend of psychedelic trance, while New Noveta, known for performances using bamboo and fish guts, will present a new piece with musician Vindicatrix.

Hazzari, a collaboration between London-based Mark Harwood and fellow noise musician Lia Mazzari, have created work using industrial fans, a cello and a harmonium.

Penzance-based Raffidy Dummitz Band will process through the building, Glasgow’s DJ Frog Princess will play music to rouse the spirits of the earth and Essene will play jazz accompanied by video projections.

Falmouth Packet:

A selection of hallucinogenic queer pagan films will also be shown, curated by the British Film Institute’s Will Fowler and drawn from the national touring film programme This is Now: Film and Video After Punk.

The action centres around the former school assembly hall and the CAST Café, in the former community centre in Penrose Road, and is being put on by Simon Bayliss and Lucy Stein, who collaborate as Bliss.

Dominic Bailey of CAST Café will host a black-themed bar and offer a Dark Supper for £6. The evening runs from 4pm until 11pm and tickets will be available on the door for £10, although advance tickets can be bought for £8 from Gillian’s Larder in Helston, online atcrbo.co.uk/cast or from the Cornish Riviera Box Office ticket line 01726 879500.

Visitors are asked not to park on Penrose Road or Flora Gardens, as parking is free in the car parks at that time of night.
