After a glorious summer of music making, the sixth annual concert series at the Church of King Charles the Martyr in Falmouth is drawing to a close so it was deemed the perfect time to

distribute some of the money the events have raised,

"This year has been exceptional with a range of music from string quartets, a harp player, a violin and guitar folk duo to vocal soloists," said the church's Michael White. "It has also involved performers of all ages, ranging from school pupils to members of the U3A recorder ensemble, all of which have comprised local musicians, showing what musical talent there is in Cornwall."

Originally set up by Lance and Julie Foy six-years-ago, the concerts have raised money for the church and local charities. This year the church is supporting the Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST).

Saturday’s special concert was given by the CMST brass tutors and after the concert, the Parish Church Music Fund presented a cheque for £1,000 to Gareth Churcher, head of the CMST, from donations made after each concert.

The music trust provides instrumental and vocal tuition to children and young people in schools throughout the county. Every year at least one concert is highly memorable and this year was no exception. A young flautist from Helston, Maia Roberts, enthralled her audience with a particularly fine performance and a cheque was also presented to Maia to help towards the cost of a new flute. This year the concert series was supported by the Greenbank Hotel and on Saturday the church welcomed Jane Williams, from the hotel, and made a presentation to the concert fund.

This Saturday’s concert is by the Goonvrea Singers and will start at noon, then on Saturday, November 5, the final concert of the series will be given by the I Chitarristi, guitar trio. Plans are already being made for next year’s series and if you would like to be involved or want to know what is coming up in the future, search for the church on Facebook or pop into the church for more information.
