Falmouth Moonlight Memory Walk sees £25,000 pledged for Children's Hospice South West

Around £25,000 was pledged on the evening by the women who had all raised sponsorship for their walk which they were doing in memory of their loved ones.

As the ladies gathered on The Moor before the walk, stories were shared, photos were taken and entertainment was enjoyed from Pirate FM and local singer Jamie Hewett.

Before the walk began at 10pm there was a special Memory Ceremony where poems were read by CHSW staff, Jamie Hewett sang a special rendition of Oasis’ Half the World Away and there was a minute's applause in memory of the walkers' loved ones with the walkers’ decorated candle bags creating a beautiful backdrop.

CHSW is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout 2016 and there were various silver references throughout the evening including six silver balloons that were given out to six ladies who have walked every Moonlight Memory Walk since the event began seven years ago.

Women came from all over Cornwall to take part as well as further afield including one lady, Laura-Beth Henry, who travelled 19 hours from Vermont to take part with her cousins from Falmouth and London who were walking in memory of her sister. Laura-Beth, Jocelyn Sietzman, Rachel Brown and daughter Rosie Brown raised over £1,300 in sponsorship in memory of their sister and cousin Debbie, who died at the age of 48 from leukaemia in 2014.

Kiley Tellam, events fundraiser for CHSW, said:“We were overwhelmed with the amount of ladies that wanted to take part this year and each of their inspiring stories. It was an emotional evening but a very special night for so many people.

"It feels very fitting that the ladies pledged to raise £25,000 in CHSW’s 25th anniversary year, these funds are vital to CHSW. I would like to thank everyone who helped make this event such a success, we really are so grateful.”
