The people of Budock got together on Saturday to support a Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning held in the Village Hall and helped raise at least £800.

The day's events began with a traditional coffee morning, boosted by a number of stalls and other refreshments, and continued at lunch time with the chance to enjoy a soup and a roll courtesy of the village playing field committee.

"It was a really good day and we had a really good turn out," said Jan Gibson, who organised the event with Sheila Gudzij and Linda Prynn. "The morning was really busy and then people drifted off, but we had people coming back for the soup and a roll. We have raised £800 so far and we usually get dribs and drabs coming in after.

"We'd like to say a big thank you to all the people who came along, all the helpers, all those who donated prizes and to the playing field committee."

While the event supported the national Macmillan fundraising initiative, all the money raised in Budock will stay in Cornwall and will be used to boost The Cove appeal at Treliske.

There will be several morning Macmillan coffee mornings this Friday, including those at Mawnan Memorial Hall and Mabe Community Hall, between 10am and noon; and another at McCarthy and Stone's new development in Bar Road, Falmouth.
