A new school year means a new head boy and girl at Falmouth Primary Academy, where several year six pupils will be taking on new responsibilities from this term.

The school has selected Briea Streets and Cory Seviour for the top roles this year, with Honey Trebilcock and Harvey Jones as their deputies.

It has also selected a group of year six pupils to act as prefects, responsible for keeping an eye on the behaviour of other children at the school and setting a good example.

Asked their thoughts on being selected for their roles, Cory said he felt "a lot of pressure" while Briea added: "I still can't believe it."

Harvey said: "We were the last four people in the assembly, and so we knew one of us was going to get picked."

As well as the heads and prefects, other year sixes have been selected for a range of 'ambassador' roles, with responsibilities including: projector and monitor ambassador, nursery prefect, ICT monitor, lunch monitor, and assembly monitor.

Head of school Jane Alexander said: "The children all wrote letters of application giving reasons why they would be good at the different roles."

She said the head boy and girl would be expected to lead assemblies, make sure the school is looking neat and tidy, and report anything they think teachers and school management need to know, as well as coming up with ideas on "how to improve the school."

She said: "We have a monthly meeting where we share their ideas and see if they come up with anything.

"They are responsible children that ensure the school is running as it should be, they are role models for the rest of the school to look up to."
