Bee enthusiasts from far and wide descended on the Enys Estate at the weekend for two days of activities, talks and fun which all revolved around the industrious insect.

The annual charity BEE Fayre had been organised by BJ Sherriff and was held in aid of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, Cornwall Wildlife Trust – Bee Kind Appeal, Bees Abroad and Bees for Development and Enys Gardens.

As well as raising money for the chosen organisations, the event was about raising awareness of the importance of bees and their plight. With the help of beekeepers, who volunteered to help on the day, many questions posed by visitors were discussed and answered.

Over the course of the weekend there were talks, demonstrations and workshops - all about bees and beekeeping from experts in the field. The Bee Farmers’ Association discussed beekeeping as a career, the University of Exeter talked about studying bee colony survival, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust highlighted the plight of the bumblebee and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust showed the work being done throughout Cornwall to preserve bee habitat.

In addition to the talks, demonstrations and craft stalls, a raffle and silent auction were held which raised over £500.

Angela Sherriff, director of BJ Sherriff and organiser of the BEE Fayre, said: "What a wonderful weekend which raised important funding for local and international bee related charities. I'd like thank all people who gave up their time, and travelled from far and wide, to speak and demonstrate their craft and Enys House for hosting us. We hope to put on a similar event in the near future."
