A planning application for four houses to accommodate 24 students next to Permarin car park in Penryn have been withdrawn following recommendations from Cornwall Council officers.
The proposals for the three-storey building on the site of Brigantine, between Lower Market Street and the car park, had been opposed by Penryn Town Council due to its poor design and lack of parking, and Cornwall Council planning officer Martin Woodley had also expressed concerns over the plan.
He contrasted it with a previous approved scheme, which represented a "more cottage style of building,"while saying the new design was " at odds with its context in respect of its height, form, massing, site coverage and limited articulation and scale," and was overbearing in an area "where development should be of a more respectful reduced form."
CAD Architects confirmed to the council that revised proposals for the site would require re-consultation, and the company would be withdrawing the application before submitting an amended scheme.
