On Sunday afternoon, St Stythians MVC performed in the amphitheatre at Trebah Garden. Visitors enjoyed the sunshine and were treated to songs from the shows including Stout-Hearted Men (New Moon), Wand’rin’ Star (Paint your Wagon) and Bring Him Home (Les Miserables) as well as male voice choir standards such as Gwahoddiad, Speed your Journey (Nabucco) and the Goff Richards classic arrangement of Let there be Light. On a lighter note the choir performed Stephen Lawry’s arrangement of Camborne Hill and their own energetic version of Li’l Liza Jane (which has to be seen to be believed). Congratulations was dedicated to a young couple in the audience celebrating seven years of marriage. They seemed happy enough. As always the choir was under the musical direction of Ken Downing and most ably accompanied by Kathryn Downing. A big thank you must also go to the “choir ladies” who support the choir, turned the pages and “manned” the collection buckets.

On Saturday, September 17, at Mawnan Community Centre (AKA the Ben Spike Centre) starting at 7pm, St Stythians MVC (Mawnan section) are organizing a free family fun night. There will be an auction, duck racing, raffle, roll-a-pound and music by the Beached Buoys.

The choir’s next engagement is in Truro Cathedral on Monday, September 19, between 1pm and 2pm. We would love to see you there.

If you feel that you would enjoy spending time with a very social group of people who enjoy singing and raising money for charity then why not join us. Our practice night takes place every Tuesday night (7.45-9.30pm) in the schoolroom at Stithians Methodist Church, where there is plenty of parking. We look forward to seeing you there.
