St Mary's School in Falmouth hosted a hugely successful summer fayre fundraiser earlier this month which raised over £2,000 a total boosted thanks to donation from HSBC.

The school's parent-volunteer group, Friends of St Mary’s School (FOSMS) had been planning the fayre since January. Leading up to the event itself, FOSMS had organised non-uniform days in return for parent donations and attracted donated raffle prizes from the local community.

At the fayre stalls included tombola, lucky dip, cakes, sweets and food, and there were fun games and competitions, and some private stalls featuring gift products and housewares.

"Families associated with the school really get behind the fundraisers we plan and we're very grateful," said Martin Haseman, current chair of FOSMS.

Deputy head Lucy Draycott added: "It’s always lovely to see the children and parents enjoying themselves at the school. The fayre had something for everyone and the atmosphere was just lovely. This year the weather was a bit changeable, but we still had a fantastic turnout and support."

This year's raffle was described as "exceptional" boasting over 20 donated prizes including a holiday in France with Glisten camping, gift cards and coupons from Jamie Oliver's 15, The Shed restaurant, the Bottle Bank, the Duchy, NV Hairdressers, the Town Barber, Falmouth Sports Club, Falmouth Tennis Club, Harbour Lights and more.

Falmouth firefighters and representatives from Elemental and Fit 'n' Fun brought vehicles down for the "touch a truck" attraction. "The ladies from Fit 'n' Fun were amazing," said Emma Lower, FOSM's secretary. "They did face painting and cake decorating and then gave us all the proceeds. That was a lovely surprise."

Head teacher, Jacqui Scarborough added: "Parents and families really were the ones making the day a huge success. They donated items, bought raffle tickets, and then turned up on the day to buy cakes, try the lucky dip or take their chance whacking a rat—and they had a great time too. Thank you to all the families at St Mary's."

FOSMs continues to support the school by raising funds to buy book bags for new reception children, iPads to help visual and interactive learning, gym and sports equipment, custom sports uniforms for school teams, and supplies for the gardening club. FOSMS is also hoping to build a new multi-purpose outdoor all-weather learning space in the school's extensive grounds.
