The inaugural Falmouth School sports presentation evening has been held when senior students along with primary sports starts were recognised for their achievements.

Up to 300 people gathered to see over 20 awards handed out to a select few from almost 1,000 students who have excelled in the last 12 months. Compered by head of PE Mrs Benney, the night kicked off with a presentation from guest speaker, ex-professional footballer and Sky Sports ambassador, Christian Roberts, before the awards were handed out.

Not only were Falmouth School students in the spotlight, but there were awards given to students from the local primary schools who had competed in various competitions at the school over the year.

St Mary’s School was named Team of the Year, with year six St Francis pupil Ellie Weetch winning the Primary Female of the Year award and year six Marlborough pupil Zak Clemens collecting the Primary Male of the Year award. Georgia Christophers in year 13 claimed the Volunteer of the Year award.

The lower school students of year seven and eight were the next group of awards to be handed out, with Abbie Burley, Adam Campbell, Amy Laundon, Dylan Gillow, Georgia Hawkins and Reuben Talbot, all scooping the prizes for such awards as most improvement, best trainer and performer of the year. In the upper school section, Molly Carter, Harry Kitto, Imogen Steele, Toby Doble, Dominique Williams and Zane Goodwin, were the recipients of the same collection of awards.

Rosie Boulton, Elliot Bullen, Dominique Williams and Jack Elsby-Hartman were awarded for their out of school excellence in a strong category that featured over 20 nominees. The final awards of the evening were the coveted team, sportsman and sportswoman of the year. The year 11 girls table tennis team was named Team of the Year after a superb year that saw them compete nationally.

Year nine student Hermione Brown was crowned Sportswoman of the Year after excelling in several sports, but especially in netball, and fellow year nine student Zane Goodwin took home the male award for his outstanding efforts in rugby and athletics.

Head of PE Christy Benney, said: “This is the first time we’ve done an evening like this, but after such a fantastic night I’m sure it will be the first of many. The sporting talent on display at Falmouth School is outstanding and their achievements continue to make use proud.”
