Plans are in place to help keep traffic moving in Helston during Air Day next week.

Up to 10,000 vehicles are expected to attend the event on Thursday, July 28, which starts at 9am and continues until 6pm.

Motorists are asked to ignore their sat navs as they get close to the air station, and instead following the specific Air Day traffic signs that will sign post people to the quickest route for the most appropriate car park.

Vehicles coming from Helston and Penzance will be sent to the main gate via the A3083, while anyone coming from the Falmouth and Truro direction will be diverted off the A394 through a temporary one way system via Gweek, taking them to the W site gate.

From the Lizard Peninsula traffic will be directed to Culdrose Sports Pavilion and fields, from where signs and traffic marshals will be direct visitors on.

There will be disabled parking in two of the main car parks, where cars displaying a Blue Badge will be directed to. It may involve a 70 metre walk to the main site, along flat tarmac. Anyone needing to use these car parks is asked not to arrive before 9am.

Marshals will direct motorists to designated parking areas and people are asked to remember which car park they are in. Once parked they will be directed to the ticket booths, if they have not already bought advanced entry.

A Culdrose spokesperson said: "Although parking is free, by entering the site you are agreeing to the purchase of an Air Day ticket for each member of your party. The public are not permitted to remain in the parking areas without being in possession of a valid Air Day ticket."

Anyone arriving by bus should consult the First Group Journey Planner for bus times on day, while people planning to walk or cycle are asked to use the footpath and cycle way on the A3083, accessing the site on the

same side of the road as the path.

The spokesperson added: "On departure we request that you remain patient and follow the directions of the traffic marshals as we will have a large volume of vehicles to disperse safely and as quickly as possible for your

convenience.

"Please exit the car parks as directed by the traffic marshals in an orderly fashion to prevent bottlenecks. These directions might not appear initially to be taking you in the direction that you want to go but traffic systems are in place to ease routes out to all destinations."
