Falmouth's new mayor, Grenville Chappel, has chosen Falmouth Stroke Club to be his charity for his term in office so it was appropriate that the first guests invited to his parlour were Graham and Brenda Wilkes, the group's chairman and secretary.

Mr Chappel said: "I decided upon Falmouth Stroke Club as my charity as so many people are affected by strokes and most importantly Falmouth Stroke Club is a local charity that provides a fantastic support network to the local community."

Brenda said: "For anyone who has had a stroke, we offer outings, social activities, talks, musical entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity to meet others who have shared your experience. We look forward to meeting any new members and their carers from Falmouth or Penryn."

Mr Chappel plans to support the club by hosting a variety of mayoral events throughout his term in office including a charity ball, civic service and street collection.

Falmouth Stoke Club meets at St Mary’s Hall in Falmouth, twice a month on Fridays and is hoping to attract new members and their carers/partners. Transport can be provided. For further details, contact Caroline Drake on 01872 573235 or Brenda/Graham Wilkes on 01326 312392.
