Penryn College textile students and Nomads Fair Trade Fashion have worked together on a design project for the fourth year with this year's collaboration culminating in a photoshoot held at Trelissick Gardens.

The year ten students designed a younger focus for Nomads’ ladies wear collection, producing garments which combined the brand’s bohemian style with fashion prediction information. Building on previous years, the photoshoot involved students from Penryn, Cornwall College, Falmouth University and Falmouth Sixth Form College.

Senior designer at Nomads, Kate Sullivan-Tailyour, interviewed each Penryn College student and viewed their design portfolio and, after careful thought and consideration, awarded a first prize and two runners up.

The winner, Matilda Fuller, decorated her product with hand embroidery, beads and block print, whilst the two runner up used crochet, beading and layered block print with lace, to create exciting designs for spring/summer 2016. The winning designs will now feature on the Nomads Fairtrade Fashion blog.

Teacher Lorraine Aonso, who is leader of the project, said: "Thank you to Craig Hardman from the National Trust, who kindly allowed the event to be carried out in the beautiful Trelissick Gardens, at a time of year when wisteria, bluebells and rhododendron were at their finest – perfect photographic backgrounds for our pupils’ designs.

"Many customers in the courtyard restaurant at Trelissick commented upon the professional finish of the garments and appealing style of the bohemian hairstyles and make-up involving bindis, henna tattoos and flower headdresses.

"We are extremely proud of what our pupils achieved and are thankful to Cornwall College, Falmouth University and Falmouth Sixth Form College for their fantastic photography, make-up and hairstyling on the day.”
