Several rescue dogs will hopefully soon have new homes and three dog charities will soon be receiving a cash donation - all thanks to the success of the second annual Bark in Park.

The event was organised by the Rosemullion veterinary practice and held in Falmouth's Kimberley Park on a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon. The fine weather enticed people out of their homes with around 2,000 dropping in to see what was on offer.

This included a dog show, won by a pooch named Chilli, with a collie called Elsa taking the title of reserve best in show. The tough task of choosing the winners fell to Sarah Powell, owner of Sarah's Doggie Day Care.

By the end of the event a total of £1,063 had been raised. This will be divided between the Cornwall Retired Greyhound Trust, K9 Crusaders and Cornwall Boxer Rescue - three charities who were all represented at the event.

Also on hand were vets and nurses from Rosemullion who were happy to give advice and hand out goody bags filled with doggy treats. In addition, all the child dog handlers were given some sweets as a reward for their efforts.

One of the most positive things to come out of the day, was the offers of homes for some of the rescue dogs. Veterinary nurse, Ruth Collett, said: "We had a parade of dogs looking for new homes and it looks like some of them have possibly got their new homes already.

"The homes are currently being vetted, but once the dogs definitely have their new homes we will put the details on our Facebook page."

The events organisers are delighted with the day. "We had a really good turn out, about the same number as last year," said Ruth. "We will definitely do it again next year. The main reason for the event is to promote responsible dog ownership and to find new homes for some dogs so it was a great success."
