A spot of wet weather could not deter the army of nature lovers that descended on Penryn Campus for its annual BioBlitz Tremough event.

Families and nature fiends donned wellies and raincoats to spend the day combing the undergrowth and scanning the skies for bugs, bats and little beasts.

The event was open to all with activities from moth trapping, small mammal trapping, and pond dipping, to different walks looking for plants, invertebrates, birds, and bats.

Overall students volunteers and members of the public collected and identified a grand total of 256 separate species, with the event running from 7am to 11pm.

The organisers said: "It's been a busy day hunting around campus, but it just goes to show the vast number of species we've found and correctly identified. It has been amazing to gather together the incredible knowledge all our volunteers and organisations have of local British wildlife and gives us clear a reason to support conservation efforts."

They added: "Thank you to everyone who braved the rain to come and help us find critters, we hope you had as much fun as we did."
