Lloyds Bank has recommended customers affected by the closure of its Penryn branch - the last bank in the town - use the Post Office for their banking needs instead.

The bank confirmed this week that it will be closing the branch due to falling customer numbers, with only 34 regular weekly personal and business customers, and 92 per cent of customers using other branches such as Falmouth.

A spokesperson said: “The Penryn branch will close on 27 July. We have made the difficult decision to close this branch because of changing customer behaviours and declining customer usage.

“The way customers fulfil their banking needs is continuing to change and we have seen a decline in customers using this branch. Customers can continue to use any other branch in our network, the nearest being Falmouth branch 1.71 miles away and the local post office is a short distance away where customers can manage their day-to-day banking needs.”

The bank said it would be "proactively talking to customers" about the service offered by the Post Office, and added that there are good public transport links to Falmouth, where Penryn-registered customers will have their accounts transferred to.
