Protesters will take to the Moor in Falmouth on Friday over the closure of popular nightclub Mango's, while petitions on the subject have amassed almost 2,500 signatures in two days.

A group of young protesters will take to the plaza in the town with music, placards, and banners, after the venue closed overnight following noise complaints.

Following the closure on Monday morning, the owner Dave Deans told the Packet he faced the threat of a £20,000 fine after a new resident got "a bee in his bonnet" over noise from the bar.

Megan Lee-Yendell, one of the people taking part in the static protest at 2pm on Friday, said: "This isn't just about Mango's as a business, it's the principle that someone decides to live in a house in close proximity to the town and then has the audacity to get an establishment that has been around for years, closed down.

"There will still be noise from Club I, and if anything the situation in the street will get worse due to more people flooding to one place. There isn't an awful lot for the young people of this town to do and I expect that house parties will increase due to this and create more problems in residential areas."

The Facebook page for the quickly generated interest, with over 70 people expected to attend within the first day.

Meanwhile two petitions set up within a day of the announcement had gathered well over 2,000 signatures within their first days.

Jack Newman's petition, Save Mango's, is aimed at Cornwall Council and gathered over 800 signatures within a day of appearing online.

Jack wrote on the page: "We urge the council and owner to reconsider their decision  to close this popular venue, and also those making the complaints to consider the impact their actions may have on young people in Falmouth."

Hugh White is also petitioning Cornwall Council, to "Revoke the lawsuit against Mango's Bar", and has gathered close to 1,600 signatures within two days.

Hugh wrote on his page: "The complaints against the bar do not represent the interests of the vast majority of residents and students under the jurisdiction."

Mango's was the second bar, after the Watermans, to close in a matter of weeks due to noise complaints, reportedly from the same source.

The Packet is still awaiting a response from Cornwall Council regarding the noise complaints.
