Two local organisations were given a cash boost this week when they each received a share of the proceeds of last year’s Mawnan Fun Run.

The event, which was held in September, raised over £2,500 and the committee met at the Greenbank Hotel this week to present cheques for £1,250 each to Mawnan School PTA and the Falmouth Rotary Club Charity Fund.

The annual fun run has gone from strength to strength over the past few years since Falmouth Rotary Club took over its organisation. Last year saw over 200 people of all ages take part in the 5k and 10k races and the one mile children’s fun run.

The money raised this year was boosted by a grant of £700 donated by the Santander Foundation staff match funding scheme, thanks to the involvement of one of their employees, Laura Brandwood, from their Falmouth branch. Laura and the Falmouth branch director, Alison Thomas, attended the cheque presentation to help hand over the proceeds.

Rod Allday, chairman of the fun run committee, said: “Last year’s event was the most successful to date and we are delighted to hand over the proceeds to two local organisations who will put the money to good use in the local community.

"We are very grateful to Santander and all the other local businesses and individuals who supported the fun run and helped to make it such a success. We are now looking forward to organising this year’s event which will be held on Sunday, September 25."
