Employees at Cornwall Council are being urged to bring a blanket to work on Wednesday 2 December to help refugees keep warm this winter.

All the blankets donated will be added to the growing pile at Wadebridge and Cornish Refugee Aid Collection. Organisers have set up collection points at council offices in Bodmin, Truro, St Austell and Camborne.

"Our 'first bring a blanket to work day' on Wednesday is the brainchild of one of our volunteer workers," said aid collection organiser Amanda Pennington. "We'll be collecting blankets from four council offices on Wednesday, but can easily set up additional collection points at offices in other towns if there's demand.

"if every council employee donated just one blanket we could have as many as 6,000 to send to desperate people in refugee camps in whichever country they're most needed."

The Wadebridge-based group want to expand blanket collection points to other sizeable workplaces in Cornwall. If people there are interested in arranging their own 'bring a blanket to work day' the group organisers would like to hear from them.

Thanks to the generosity of people all over Cornwall, volunteers at Wadebridge Cornish Refugee Aid Collection have already sorted and boxed vast quantities of donated clothing, tents, sleeping bags and blankets, food, toiletries and medical supplies.

In the last month alone three big lorryloads have left the sorting shed at Wadebridge Showground with donated goods destined for refugee camps in Calais, Lesbos and Syria.
