Over twenty Penryn traders, community group representatives and council members met for a a continental breakfast and forum discussion at the Thirsty Scholar on Friday.

At the first Penryn Network Breakfast, organised by the new town team, attendees listened to an informal overview of the town team objectives presented by its chair Christopher Smith, as well as hearing from the mayor, Mark Snowden, on the work of the Christmas lights committee, its recent Crowdfunder campaign and the list of events and activities taking place on the evening of December 5 for the big switch on.

The breakfast was sponsored by the town team, and it is hoped that businesses will step forward to sponsor future breakfasts that will continue on the third Friday of each month.

Christopher Smith said of the breakfast: "We were really delighted to see such a good turnout, especially on such a wet and windy morning for our first breakfast club meeting. The idea of these meetings is to act as a forum where the people of the town can get together, network and share ideas on how to make Penryn an even better place in which to live and work.

"We had representatives from so many organisations, Visit Penryn, Hands Up Penryn, Helping Hands, Love Penryn, Penryn Creative Traders and the town council for example, as well as many local businesses, and it was good to see offers of help coming in after the breakfast for ways in which we can move forward.

"A big thank you goes to the Thirsty Scholar for the welcome spread they gave us and also Pip Carlton-Barnes for arranging this meeting, the first of many."

The town team formed a little over a year ago to co-ordinate a structured and proactive strategy to reinvigorate the town and provide support to the many groups which aim to move the town forward, and it has a steering group which meets monthly.

The next Penryn Network Breakfast will be held on December 18, anyone from the local area interested in attending a breakfast or wishing to find out more about the town team should email townteampenryn@gmail.com or visit their blog penryntownteam.wordpress.com
