Penryn College has unveiled its first ever Wall of Fame which pays tribute to inspirational students, staff and PC Andy Hocking, who had been a great supporter of the school.

The concept of the wall was for students to nominate anyone they thought deserved recognition for something positive they had done. Whether it was an achievement, an act of bravery or raising money for charity, nobody would be exempt from a nomination.

The response was excellent, with students voting in their hundreds before handing over the nominations to the Student Council. The council then counted the votes and whittled them down to those with the most nominations, before several meetings were held to decide on any tied number of votes. In the end, the first nine winners were decided and plans began on getting the display in place.

The winners were: pupil Kian Pellow, nominated for exceptional bravery after donating bone marrow to his brother; Yasmin Andrews, the school dinner lady who is adored by students and was nominated for her friendly and kind nature to pupils; Ty Gilbert, Anna Mitchell and Ethan Fernie, who reacted quickly and responsibly to a situation outside of school to help a woman who fell ill.

The School Charity Prefects, nominated for raising a huge amount of money; the Under 16 Netball team, County Champions in all five years of their school lives and who recently competed at the national finals; Fiona Williams, a teacher nominated for her positivity in the classroom and for being a good role model for students; Amy Cocksedge and Cassie Dawe, who were both nominated for their individual charity work; Mollie Martin, a member of the netball team who was instrumental in the building process of the wall.

Finally, PC Andy Hocking, who died in March, was nominated in recognition of his "fantastic contribution to the college over the years."

The Wall of Fame is now on display in the college corridor. Each member of the Wall of Fame is showcased in an A0 sized box, which is lit from behind with LED lights. The first set of winners will be showcased on the wall until the end of the year, before the next phase of nominations starts.
