Police have arrested two men over a road traffic collision which left two pedestrians dead near St Agnes at the weekend.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which happened some time after 3am on Sunday on the B3277 between the village and the A30 Chiverton Cross roundabout.

Police received reports a car being involved in a collision with a pedestrian, and on arrival officers found a damaged white S4 Audi Estate, and the bodies of man and a woman both 51 years of age were found near the scene.

Two men, aged 26 and 27 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody awaiting interview.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating the circumstance surrounding the death of these two people, and we are keeping and open mind.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, especially if you saw either of the two walkers on the road from St Agnes towards the A30 prior to the collision, or a white S4 Audi Estate during this time as you could hold vital information."

Witnesses should call the police on 101 quoting police log 208 of the 2nd August.
