Fingers are crossed that the weather is fine for Saturday's Helford Passage Regatta which will see a full programme of fun and games both on and off the water.

"If you only take the family to one regatta this summer, make sure it’s ours,” said Jenny Purdy, speaking on behalf of this year’s regatta committee. “It starts at noon on Helford Passage beach, and we are planning to make it to be the biggest and best yet.”

There will be numerous rowing races, ranging from the serious to the ridiculous – try rowing whilst swapping t-shirts with your rowing partner half way round the course - not so easy! As usual, there will be plenty of activities for the children to get stuck into, with traditional beach and swimming races, a sandcastle competition, face painting, and fancy dress for the under tens, the theme this year being a favourite character from book, TV or film which will be judged mid afternoon.

Tug of War for the over 16s is always hotly contested, the raffle and tombola will be stuffed with great prizes, and the cake stall, barbecue and beach bar will ensure everyone is well fed and watered. The RNLI hope to offer a display during the afternoon, and the day will be rounded off with music in The Ferry Boat Inn from Shameless from 9pm until late.

Like last year, all proceeds from the day will go to Falmouth RNLI, and the committee are really hoping to be able raise even more than last year’s record of over £2,200.
