Teenager Ellie Richards has been chosen as the new mayor's police cadet for Falmouth and for the next 12 months will accompany Councillor John Body on a host a civic engagements.

All the town's police cadets were invited to write a letter to Mr Body, explaining why they would be the best choice to take on the role. He then invited them all, along with their mentor PCSO Ellie Grey, to join him and his wife, Linda, for some food and drink when he revealed Ellie, 14, had been selected to take over from last year's cadet, Sam Passmore.

The youngster has been a police cadet since last summer and has found it a rewarding experience. "It means a lot to be part of something that I never thought I would be, to be honest," she said. "It's really exciting and we get to learn a lot. I love it."
