FOLLOWING a vibrant annual general meeting of the Redruth & District Chamber of Commerce new officers were elected to continue with the ongoing renewal and expansion of the chamber, one of the country’s oldest.

The new president is councillor Nuno de Freitas, the vice president is Christine Roger, the secretary is Kate March and the treasurer is Richard Monk.

The meeting, which was hosted by Mary Anson in the function room at Crossroads, Scorrier, was attended by several new members and following discussions, it was announced that there is to be an active programme to re engage with businesses and commercial property owners in Redruth.

At the end of the evening, the new president, Cllr de Freitas, proprietor of “The Spot” Portuguese Cafe in the town’s Lower Fore Street and an importer and exporter said,: “I chose to set up business in Redruth because it is an historic town with very friendly people and a good community spirit. It is my pleasure to serve as a town councillor and now I am very happy to have been elected as president of the Redruth and District Chamber of Commerce.”

He added: “We are actively seeking new members who are prepared to work in a spirit of positive co operation and partnership for the good of the town. My saying is: ‘All together - yes we can!’ and I believe that working in this way we can rejuvenate Redruth particularly as we now see so much renovation work being carried out.”
