The Helston based charity Mustard Seed, which as part of its work manages and runs the local Foodbank, was faced with a mammoth task of relocating its warehouse last week.

In the past the charity has been able to make use of the two portable buildings which were located on the grounds of ShelterBox, but has now moved to a permanent site at the Light and Life Church, 200 yards down the road.

David Williams, development manager of Mustard Seed, said: “The generosity of ShelterBox in allowing us to historically make use of these units and making them available for us to take over the ownership of them at such a critical point in the future of the Helston and Lizard Foodbank, has enabled the work of the foodbank to grow, develop and meet the need of local people who from time to time need some assistance.

“We are also extremely grateful to Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Helston for providing a permanent site for our warehouse. Mustard Seed works closely with other local organisations not only to meet immediate needs, but also to provide valuable life skills training and work experience to some of the most vulnerable in our local community so that those we support can better help themselves and others.

“A special thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers who have continued to work so hard at ensuring we are still able to provide food parcels during this massive task and who are today ensuring the food is returned, correctly into the warehouse at the new site.”

Ruth McGurk, foodbank co-ordinator for Mustard Seed, added: “We have seen a steady increase in the use of our foodbank over the past three years. Many of those we have managed to help have found themselves, through no fault of their own, in desperate need of assistance.

“Through our distribution points based at the Open Door Café in Helston and Mullion Methodist Church, we are able to both offer immediate assistance and sign post or offer further help to those who |need it.”

The move went well causing only “minimal disruption” to vehicles and pedestrians on the Water-Ma-Trout industrial estate and surrounding area thanks to GT Stone who made the site transfer possible.
