Two Penryn men are getting on their bikes to cycle 1,200 miles from Bergen in Norway to Amsterdam in Holland in just 12 days and will be raising awareness of dementia along the way.

Reuben Slater, pictured above, and Dene Clarke both work at the Cycle Solutions at Jubilee Wharf and have family members who have become affected by dementia. When Toops and Bob Bridges approached the company during the course of their work to encourage businesses to join the local Dementia Action Alliance, not only did Cycle Solutions join but an offer was made to take awareness a lot further than Bob and Toops expected.

Following some discussion, it was agreed that Reuben and Dene’s bikes will bear several of the distinctive Alliance stickers and that the pair will wear matching t-shirts. Because Reuben and Dene are carrying everything they need with them - and they are camping en-route - clothing has to be at a minimum.

“What a great offer this was,” said Bob. “Every good wish goes with them for a great adventure. Good luck Reuben and Dene.”
