A “Have a Go” day at Pool Academy saw employers give bite sized chances to pupis keen to find out about the world of work
The event, organised by Cornwall Learning Education Business Partnership was part of the wider careers day at the school, with Year 9 students finding out about careers and the pathways to a dream job - including further education and apprenticeships.
Activities included how to windsurf with the South West Lakes Trust, learning about bread making with Portreath Bakery and developing coding skills with Bluefruit Software.
‘Have a Go’ activities were also offered by NatWest Bank, The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Premier Inn and The Headland Hotel.
Jennie Gil, science teacher at Pool Academy said: “The workshops encouraged students to think about the skills and qualifications that they will need in the future. It was good to see how much opportunity there is within Cornwall and to encounter people who have been successful locally. The young people had a great day and really enjoyed their sessions; one was heard telling an employer that it was his best lesson ever!”
