Visitors to Porthleven next month might be able to able to walk across the water of the harbour, for one day only.

It is thought this would be the first time ever that such a thing would be possible, and is likely to be a major attraction of this year’s Porthleven Food and Musical Festival if the feat is pulled off.

Festival committee chairman David Turnbull said organisers were in talks with Harbour and Dock Company owner Trevor Osborne and fishermen about putting a bridge across the harbour, giving easier access between the two sides to ease congestion.

If it is possible, the bridge would go where the baulks cross the harbour.

He told members of Porthleven Town Council that a small toll could be charged, with 20 per cent going to |the Fishermen’s Mission |and the rest to fund the |bridge – although councillors jokingly questioned which direction people would be charged.

“Kelvin (Batt, of the Masked Ball) will get dressed as a troll and be the troll for the bridge,” added Mr Turnbull.

“We haven’t got official approved yet, so it’s still just an idea, but I think it would be a major attraction for the festival.”

This year the festival had teamed up with the organisers of Porthleven Masked Ball, who would be responsible for the music side and overall look of the event.

Councillors also agreed with Mr Turnbull’s requests for keeping the public toilets open as long as possible, providing the litter bin key in order for these to be emptied regularly and providing the use of the council’s power supply.

Members also agreed a £500 contribution towards the cost of running the event.
