A contingent of around 30 Royal Marines will join a parade which will march through Falmouth’s town centre on Sunday as part of commemorations to mark the 73rd anniversary of the raid on the French port of St Nazaire during World War Two.

The annual St Nazaire service of remembrance will be held at the memorial on Prince of Wales Pier at 11am on Sunday, but will be preceded by a parade which will leave The Moor at 10.45am.

Joining the civic party and local representatives of the services, including the Parachute Regiment, Merchant Navy Association and Royal Navy Association, will be the members of 42 Commando Royal Marines along with members of crew from HMS Tyne which will be visiting Falmouth this weekend.

The service will be led by the Rev David Wylie, padre to the Commandos, and the tribute will be given by their second in command, Major Chris Hall.

After the service and wreath laying the parade will reform and march to Grove Place where a civic reception will be held in the Watersports Centre.

Ahead of all this, a simple wreath laying ceremony will take place at 9.30am at Falmouth Cemetery at the graves of Leading Seaman WA (Bill) Savage (MGB 314), and Tom Parker, LDG Motor Mechanic RN and also former Falmouth Commando, Johnny Johnson.
