A new community cycling group is ready to roll in Helston and preparing for its first ride this Saturday (January 31).

Call the 'Penrose Pedalers', the group has been set up as a way to encourage people back onto their bikes and is a joint project between The National Trust, Healthy Helston, Cornwall Health Promotion Service, Sustrans and local volunteers.

The group aims to hold regular rides starting from Helston and will be suitable for all ages and capabilities.

The first ride will leave the free car park by the Penrose Amenity area at 10.30am. Places need to be booked in advance via Graham Hicks, the Cornwall Health Promotion health trainer for the Helston area, on 07795 451568. Sally-Anne Martyn, one of the Sustrans volunteer cycle leaders, said: “This is a leisure cycling group for all ages and abilities.

“Cycling is great for not only your physical fitness but also for your mental wellbeing. We will be using the new tarmac trail through Penrose to the Stable café, making this a level ride and particularly suitable for families.”
