A six-year-old boy from Redruth suffering from a brain tumour has enjoyed a trip of a lifetime with his family to visit Santa in Lapland, thanks to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The charity for children with serious and terminal illnesses granted the Christmas wish-of-a-lifetime to Finn Mitchell after he "conquered his Everest with humour and determination during an extremely hard year.

Thankfully Finn is now making an amazing recovery and has astounded all of his care team.

Each year the charity sends a group of families to Luosto, which is a traditional Finnish resort that offers a magical Lapland experience, and Finn and his family were able to join Starlight’s eighth annual trip in their quest to meet Santa.

With his mum, Natalie, dad, Andrew, and twin brother and sister, Ty and Missy, 15 he spent a perfect three days in Lapland, where they enjoyed a breathtaking ride through the forest on a sleigh pulled by a team of huskies, riding on snowmobiles weaving in and out of the snow covered trees, meeting the reindeer, enjoying a tranquil sleigh ride through the pine trees and, of course, meeting Santa and his elves.

The family drank warming cups of berry juice around the campfire, made snowmen, threw snowballs and went sledging.

On their return, mum, Natalie said, “This wonderful break has given Finn and all of us a chance to erase last year’s painful memories and replace them with some really magical one. It really has been the trip of a lifetime and we have had an amazing time.”
