A plea has gone out for more volunteer drivers on the Lizard Peninsula to help those unable to get to medical appointments.
The East Lizard Helpline provides transport to GP surgeries, hospitals and dentists, for anyone without their own transport and no access to public transport.
The parishes covered stretch from Mawgan in the north of the peninsular to Coverack in the south, and journeys to appointments, while usually no further than hospitals in Penzance, Hayle and Truro, have been as far as Plymouth.
More volunteer drivers are particularly needed in the parishes of Mawgan, St Martin and Manaccan.
Volunteers can use their own cars and set their own rules on how far they wish to travel, and how frequently they are available.
Most contracts average two to four drives a month, but there is no commitment to a specific availability. Mileage and parking, if applicable, may be claimed.
Wendy Bailey, who has been volunteering for a decade, told the Packet: “I have met many interesting people and got to find many different roads and places since I started driving for Helpline ten years ago.”
Packet readers requiring more information about volunteering should contact Verna Tripconey on 01326 281480.
