There were Santas and Rudolphs everywhere one looked in Falmouth on Saturday as Cornwall Hospice Care’s annual festive fun run came to town.

Around 500 people, from children to pensioners, poured through the streets, taking part in either a one-mile or a three-mile run. Shoppers stopped to watch and cheer as the festive characters, some pushing buggies and others with their four-legged friends, passed by.

The Santas and Rudolphs, who were a new addition to the fun run this year, assembled on The Moor and took part in a lively warm up hosted by a team from The Core before being set off by BBC Radio Cornwall presenter, Julie Skentelbery.

“We were over the moon with the turnout, which was swelled by a large number of people who registered to take part at the very last minute,” said Lindsay Opie, events fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care.

“People had really gone to town on their costumes and there were decorated buggies and even festive outfits for a number of dogs.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part or volunteered on the day and made it such a happy and rewarding event. Thanks must also go to BBC Radio Cornwall, the Falmouth Town Team, Falmouth Methodist Church, the Cornwall 4x4 emergency response teams and all those people who stopped to cheer our Santas through the town.”

The Santa Fun Run in Falmouth, which is expected to raise around £10,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care, is the largest of 11 Santa Fun Runs organised by the charity. The 2014 Santa series has already raised more than £20,000 and is expected to exceed £30,000 once all the sponsorship money has been received.
