A Falmouth salon owner whose premises was targetted by thieves during a spate of burglaries is trying to raise security awareness among the business community.

Christina Grant wants to warn other business owners after her company, Ultimate Beauty and Bubblegum Hairdressing on Tregoniggie Industrial Estate, was one of several businesses broken into in mid-October.

The raid saw thieves kicking in part of a door and stealing hair products, hair straighteners, iPods and cash.

She said the company had been left out of pocket after failing to secure a payout from its insurance provider, and she wanted to prevent others from finding themselves in a similar situation.

She said: “We’re trying to raise awareness among people around Falmouth on how to be a bit safer.

“When we went to the insurance company we weren’t covered for a few reasons, so we took a massive hit and made a massive loss.

She added that if she could share that information, then hopefully it can stop others targeted by burglars from suffering the same losses, “and just before Christmas as well”.

Representatives from Devon and Cornwall Police and Falmouth Fire Station will be attending an event held by the company at Falmouth Town Football Club to give safety talks.

Christina said: “We will be having Christmas market stalls so it’s a happy event to go to, not a depressing one.”

The event will take place on Sunday, November 30, from 12.30pm to 6pm at the football club on Bickland Water Road.

Alongside the safety talk and market stalls there will be beauty treatments, children’s entertainment, cakes and refreshments, a prize raffle and a charity football match.
