The entrance to a lay-by parking area on Goonhilly Downs could be altered to stop larger vehicles from stopping there.

In the past the large lay-by at Traboe Cross has been home to travellers, although they have since moved on. The changes to the entrance are at the suggestion of Cornwall Council’s gypsy and liaison officer.

Walter Sanger, Cornwall Councillor for the St Keverne parish, said it “might be a good idea” to restrict access to just cars.

He was speaking to members of St Keverne Parish Council, where chairman Roger Combe suggested that a height restriction would be the most appropriate.

However, councillor Anthony Richards said: “In the past it has always been a very handy place for any lorries to pull in there.

“It’s a very fast, dangerous road and people do meet there and get in different cars. Where are you going to leave your vehicle?”

Councillor Michael Anselmi questioned whether large vehicles would simply move 100 yards down the road, in the direction of Kennack, but Mr Sanger said that lay-by was privately owned and it was “relatively easy” to get vehicles off private land.

The question of who owns Traboe Cross lay-by would need to be settled before any changes are made.
