The children, parents and teachers at Marlborough School all enjoyed an afternoon of fruit based fun at the annual Apple Day on Thursday.
The pupils and their families enjoyed activities such as an apple shy, bobbing, a longest peel competition, and hand pressing juice; one enterprising parent had even fashioned a catapult out of wood and bungee cords which was used to fire apples at targets in the playground.
There was also a splat the rat stall, cakes and refreshments and a craft table where children could make pumpkin pictures for Hallowe’en.
Kath Statham, a parent and organiser, said: “The reason it was a success is because everybody’s so excited about apples and about joining in.
“Not only have the parents been fantastic about getting everything organised, but the children have too.
“Lots of children have brought in apples, which is great considering they were so late this year.”
Kath thanked Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s for donating apples for the event, and thanked Asda’s community champion Bernadette Snow for her help with setting up and her work mashing apples into juice with the children.
Any proceeds from the event will be used to cover costs, with money left over going towards the school’s gardening club.
