The St Keverne community is in shock this week after police launched a murder investigation following the death of a man, who is believed to have been hit with a crossbow bolt.

Roy Hanson, of Taz Plumbing, has been named as the man who died. Mr Hanson, aged 50, has a house in St Martin but was said by police to have been living in the Helston area at the time of his death.

Police were called to a rural property outside St Keverne just after 9am on Saturday.

They had been alerted by the ambulance service, who were sent to treat a man who had suffered a serious chest injury, who was later identified as Mr Hanson.

Father of two Mr Hanson was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

A police spokesman said later: “Mr Hanson is thought to have been struck with a bolt from a crossbow.”

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

Officers from the force’s Major Crime Investigation Scene spent the day investigating the circumstances of the incident and scenes of crime officers could be seen at the property.

ading David Richard Schofield, aged 28, of The Caravan, Trevallack Farm, St Keverne, entered no plea at Truro Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he faced a charge of murdering Roy Hanson at Helston on October 25. The case was sent to Truro Crown Court that afternoon for a bail hearing, which was subsequently adjourned to Tuesday.
