The people of Falmouth and Penryn will have an opportunity to make their voices heard over Cornwall Council budget cuts at public meetings next month.

The council has been forced to make savings totalling £196 million by 2018, including front line services such as public health, community safety, adult care and children’s services.

These cuts could see public toilets closed across most of Cornwall, except Falmouth where the town council is in control of those facilities, cuts in the inspection of food outlets, and the handing over of the county’s car parks - all except the most profitable – to town and parish councils or even third parties.

Cornwall Council said: “With such a huge challenge we face the unenviable task of having to decide where and how to reduce our services or increase income. To do this we need to hear from our communities, partners and businesses about which services they believe should be a priority.

“We want as many people as possible to be involved in our budget discussions.”

A presentation on the budget will take place at 4pm on October 21 in the council chamber at Falmouth Town Hall, on The Moor, and will be followed immediately by the Falmouth and Penryn community network meeting which will allow the public to voice their opinions.

In Helston the meeting will take place on Tuesday October 28 at Helston Community College
