Pasty production at WC Rowes’ Penryn site is fully up and running after a recent fire closed the company’s Falmouth factory.

The marketing director of the Falmouth-based bakery, Paul Pearce, said: “We are delighted to confirm pasty production has been up and running at our Penryn bakery for the past two weeks.

“This is a huge achievement in the short period of time after the fire and shows the strength and character of our team when faced with such a major challenge.”

The company is still operating from its main site on Bickland Water Road but since the fire the main production hall has been out of operation, in spite of the fact it was not damaged in the incident.

The main damage caused was to the roof, electrical wiring and the switch room, and repair work is underway, with production expected to restart in the next month. Paul added: “We are extremely proud of each of our colleagues for their efforts, understanding and cooperation in such difficult circumstances.

“We would also like to express our gratitude to Cornwall Environmental Health Officers for their continued support and assistance in ensuring we comply with the stringent hygiene standards set out by the Food Standards Agency.

“Without the commitment of our local EHO, it would not have been possible to be producing pasties in the short space of time that we actually were.

“Finally we would like to thank all of our customers for their continued understanding, well wishes and support.”
