It may have been ten years since the last Constantine Flower Festival, but it was worth the wait as villagers came together to transform the Parish Church into a sea of colour.

Gardens across the village were raided as people got creative and needed the raw materials to put their displays together. Many organisations and individuals had contributed, from the church choir, bell ringers and organist to the bowling club, book club, WI, local school and Brownies, Guides and Scouts.

The first ever Constantine Flower Festival was held back in 2004 when members of St Constantine Church’s fundraising and social committees came up with the idea. Although the event was a great success, it had not been repeated – until this year.

Liz Pearce, one of the organisers, said: “Liz Moore suggested we have another go at a flower festival and we invited every organisation in the village to create their own piece, or offered our help on interpreting their ideas.

“We have representatives from the whole village, from the book club to Christmas lights and all the children’s organisations. The festival is a celebration of village life.”

In addition to the large floral displays which filled the church, smaller posies were hung from the end of the pews. These had been made, or dedicated, by people who wanted to remember a loved one who had died or celebrate a particular landmark event, such as a wedding anniversary or special birthday.

As well as the floral displays, visitors to the festival were also treated to some musical interludes with Constantine School’s choir, samba band and ukulele group leading the way on the first day.

There were also performances by Four Lanes Male Voice Choir, Trengilly Singers, Mullion Hand Bell Ringers among others. All money made during the festival will be split between church funds and Cornwall Hospice Care.
