The people of Budock enjoyed a blooming good day when the annual garden show took place in the village hall.

The event was opened by resident John Wright, who told of entering the show when he was a child and it was held at Penjerrick, and along with the usual committee members there were two new judges this year: flower judge Margaret Underwood and hobbies and handicraft judge Pat Bennetts.

The secretary of Budock Garden Show, Pauline Chapple, said: “It was a great show, we had lots of entries and we didn’t think we were going to until two weeks before, it all came together at the last moment.

“We had a great turnout, we were really well represented, and lots of visitors came, and we had great support from the village, so there was a great atmosphere.

As well as the usual plant and produce competitions, there were entries in handicrafts, and in photography. There were also entrants from the allotments at Roscarrack, and pupils from Falmouth’s St Francis School took part as well.

Show chairman Robert Wilson thanked all the new exhibitors, and remarked how fantastic it was to see all the new names, not only entering for the first time but also winning. He also thanked the ladies of the WI who helped with lunch for the judges.
