An evening of entertainment was a good bet when Porthleven's Lights Committee held a charity horse racing night.

Taking place in the Atlantic Inn, the aim was to raise funds for the ongoing maintenance of the lights that illuminate the port through the year, with extra displays at Christmas.

The evening took the form of horse racing “meet” - televised races were shown and the punters had to place their bets before finding out the winners.

Treacle Tart proved to be the ultimate winner, making the syndicate The Tartlets, named in honour of their house, the big winners.

Judy Collins, a member of the lights committee who helped organise the event, said: “It was very well attended and a good time was had by all.”

In total £230 was raised towards the fund, with the auction of a cake donated by Chris Stevens helping contribute to this amount. The committee is currently trying to get Porthleven's famous clock tower lit up and money is likely to go towards this.

Landlord Adrian Santi organised the racing, helped by Fiona Murray, while landlady Leigh and her bar staff worked hard keeping everyone fed and watered.

“It was a really fun night,” added Mrs Collins. “The Atlantic Inn always sponsor the lights, so they try to put on different nights for us.”
