Falmouth Gig Club is appealing for businesses and community organisations to put together a crew to take part in an open race day this Sunday as part of its campaign to raise money for new oars.

Teams should consist of six people over the age of 16 who are all non-rowers. For any teams a member short, the gig club will make up the numbers but the team will not be eligible to win the competition.

There has already been a lot of interest with five teams booked, but there is space for at least four more. The event will take place at the Falmouth Watersports Centre between noon and about 4pm to 5pm. Teams will get at least three, six minute races with the coxswain, boat and oars provided by Falmouth Gig Club. There will also be a barbecue and refreshments on offer.

Rowers are asked to contribute £7 and each team make a collective contribution of £10 per boat, £52 per boat in total. To book a place for a team contact Simon Tripp at psytrippsgmail.com or on 07592054451.

Anyone unable to raise a crew or attend can still support the club by making a donation via http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/Paddle-Power/ or through Simon.

The club has raised £1,132 so far which is 38 per cent of the total required with only about a fortnight find to raise the rest.
